Opis: First I heard Miguel Atwood-Fergeson's Hoc N Pucky. Beautiful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhg_fPD-Lhc The song, I learned, is part of a tribute album to the late rapper J Dilla, called Suite For Ma Dukes (the name of the rapper's mother). I listened to the original recording (which I also dig) by Slum Village, of which J Dilla was a part of. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJHbMp6gz-c&feature=related I looked into the song, and found that the sample for Hoc N Pucky came from Bill Evans' Twelve Tone Tune, off of the pianists' The Bill Evans Album. Awesome! (Bill Evans is amazing, Nardis, perhaps amazinger) I listened to all of the recordings on YouTube of Twelve Tone Tune, but couldn't find any Fender Rhodes on the recordings, which is the instrument that was obviously sampled. So I bought the record. It was sampled at 5:07 Just take a listen. Without further ado, for the Bill fans, MAF fans, and J Dilla fans, here is Bill Evans' Twelve Tone Tune in all of its entirety and glory. I just think it's awesome that it went from jazz, to hip hop, back to orchestrated jazz. Yeah. Oh and, I was just introduced to J Dilla through Atwood-Ferguson. Love it.
