To our fellow TVU students,
YOUR UNION needs YOU!
We are asking you for your support on an issue that will affect all of you who study here at TVU.
Due to cut backs in funding due to past mismanagement the University is now cutting our funding.
The funding is how we mainly get our funding money in order to support you the students of TVU.
With these upcoming cuts to our budget these are the things that will be affected-
• Sports (teams unable to play)
• Societies (Unable to grow)
• Representation
• Magazine (without outside sponsorship we could have lost YOUR Magazine.)
As you know the University has been cutting cost exercise this year.
This has seen courses closures, students having to pay hidden course fees.
The cuts that have been going on during this year have also seen-
• Lecturers leaving half way through teaching
• Medical centre closing even earlier (health centre services being cut down)
• Student Services closing earlier.
• Library hours being cut down drastically
• Studio times being cut down
One Faculty this year has even gone to lengths to start charging students Studio Fees in order for YOU to do your work in. They have done this by not telling YOU before you joined TVU.
Looking at other similar Unions like us around London we have found that those Student Unions whos Parent Bodies are having cuts imposed on them are NOT then putting those cuts on to the Students Unions. One is even getting an increase on their funding!
Enough is enough now!!
We are holding a SIT DOWN protest on the St Marys Road Campus on Wednesday 19th May 2010 from 12pm onwards, to show the University that WE THE STUDENTS HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF ALL THESE CUTS AND THEM NOT TELLING US THE TRUTH!
Please come down and tell TVU that next year
1. You want sports teams
2. You want societies
3. You need representation
4. You need lecturers to support you in your studies throughout the year
5. You need a functioning library at all times (not only on the week that you need to hand in your assignment
Let TVU know that it is YOUR STUDENT EXPERIENCE that they are compromising.
We look forward to seeing you there next week.
